About the Stairs
2003
Object, chipboard, wood
During a few years developed a relation of Stano Masár to places, which he „occupies“. In the beginning it was about an installation of objects after proporcional space axioms (Back to the stars, SNG). Today we can see (after Remote moving, CC Center and 22OO N, Copenhagen) already his third exhibition, which we can understand directly as project. Masár's tematic cycle analyzing and varying motif of stairs in a scale of their architectonic quality up to autonomous quality can be applied in any other place. It is about a character of universal item site-specific, what is for this author a typical strategy.
The current exhibition shows a cleared architectonic construction. Masár avoided of any reference to the time, place or other parameter of reality. An object architecture is expressively minimalistic, it seeks to merge with milieu to a compact whole. The question of functionality is the second permanent Masár's controversy – controversy, which can be extended to a conflict between the art and design. He disputes it mostly through reversed sacramentality, by means of things, which are symbol to themselves.
