Installation, site specific, 12 objects, Norrebro Park, Copenhagen (DK)
Dimensions variable. View of the installation in Norrebro Park, Copenhagen, 2002
The exhibited "Door Project" by the artist, Stano Masár, is a conceptual continuation of more extensive series from his artwork. This installation presents the principle of the multiplication of objects taken out of the real world. The artist has chosen a collection of twelve doors, similar to those existing in private flats in the Norrebro district (Copenhagen), setting them into the area of the park in a special architectual structure.
These doors have lost their original meaning and function and they now express two main levels of concepts. The first one concerns social aspect, idea of getting to other places, private/public, starting/ending communication, getting closer/getting farther from people, activity (opening or passing through a door)/passivity (going round it), overcoming obstaclesgetting out of the way, or moving in a labyrinth/seeking the way out.
The second level has a historical reference. Doors have been placed in the area where a railway station was formerly situated. This part of the building, the doors, represent the past, "the white spirits" (the colour of the doors), reminding us the history of the district, blending the past with the present into a whole.
